Overview: 

When working on this badge, badge earners will have the opportunity to re-think booklists in order to better connect with parents, teachers, community partners, and caregivers in the 21st century. To earn this badge the learner will:

  • Learn how institutions are using curation tools to connect people to resources
  • Brainstorm a topic that parents, teachers, or caregivers might be interested in knowing about in order to support teen needs
  • Create a Pinterest Board to highlight the resources on your topic that your audience would be interested in.
Goals: 
  • To give badge earners the opportunity to re-think how they connect with teachers, parents, community partners, and caregivers to promote resources for teens
  • To give badge earners the opportunity to learn how to use curation tools in order to promote and connect teachers, parents, community partners, and caregivers to resources for teens.
  • To give badge earners the chance to think about the best tools to use to connect to teachers, parents, and caregivers.
Tech required: 

Google Drive apps. You will develop Google Docs as a part of earning this badge and link to each of the items you create when you are ready to submit your badge for review and feedback. (A getting started with Google Apps screencast is available.)

Steps: 
  • As you work on the steps in this badge earning process remember to consult the badge rubric and keep in mind the requirements of the rubric and how to create a set of high-quality project materials.

  • Read Content Curation and the School Librarian

  • Read 7 Things You Should Know About Digital Content Curation

  • Learn how to use Pinterest by going through the All about Pinterest help sections of the Pinterest site. Make sure to read through all of the materials linked in the left navigation of the main page linked here.

  • Brainstorm a list of topics that you think parents, teachers, community partners, or caregivers who live or work with teens might be interested in having easy access to. Use the Google Doc template to keep track of this brainstorming. Select one topic on your list and explain why you think it's a good one to start with for a curated Pinterest board for adults.

  • Once you have selected your topic, complete the badge earning process by creating a Pinterest board for that topic. Include a combination of books and digital materials that support the needs of teens and which adults in teen lives will be interested. Make sure to annotate the items.

  • Before submitting the materials you created for review by the badge earning community, remember to consult the badge rubric and keep in mind the requirements of the rubric and how to create a set of high-quality project materials.
